Plans underway to construct railway, motorway from Kyaukphyu to Shweli

With the aim of regional development, railways and motorways will be constructed from Kyaukphyu Township of Rakhine State to Shweli of China.         For the implementation of Kyaukphu-Shweli Highway Corridor, Deputy Minister for Transport of People’s Republic of China Mr. Freng Zhenglin and delegation discussed with Deputy Minister U Tint Swe for Construction of Myanmar at Nay Pyi Taw on 13 September.         At the meeting, the two sides agreed to draw a Master Plan, to conduct sector-wise survey on the project according to this plan, and to observe feasibility of the section between Kyaukphyu and Magway.         The project of constructing the railways and motorways from Kyaukphyu to Shweli will be carried out in phases. The routes are the initial ones from Rakhine State to China. Kyaukphyu region will be like a commercial hub in Rakhine State. At present, real estate price has tripled when compared with the past five years.         Myanmar and China are in the process of discussions to build Kyaukphyu deep sea port. Kyaukphyu will become not only a main oil exporting sea port but also a special commercial zone.        In addition to the establishment of special industrial zone in Kyaukphyu, it is likely to be a commercial hub because plans are to build the oil exporting sea port and the international airport, remarked the entrepreneurs.        With respect to the above plans, foreign investments are being invited on mutual interests. Apart from the Asian countries, it is necessary to invite developed nations. At present, China stands top in Myanmar’s investment sector. Myanmar and China are discussing to accelerate in bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries, to work closely in international affairs and to cooperate in environmental conservation.        Similarly, Myanmar and China has promoted bilateral cooperation between the two countries for decades.
